About This Track

'Chaka' by Algiers is an Alternative track from the album 'There Is No Year' (2020). The lyrics are a taunting warning against trying to “hide away”, insisting the consequences will catch up. There is a sense of restless compulsion, with images of unwanted influence and the need to change behaviour, addressed in a direct, admonishing tone. Repetition reinforces the idea of being trapped in the aftermath of what has already happened, and the final lines press the same demand: shift course before it spirals further.

"Chaka" is a track by Algiers, from the album There Is No Year, released 17th January 2020. The track is 3:53 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about Algiers.

Lyrics

Chaka

You can't hide away
And move onto the next woman
Forget about it
You just got to--
You can't hide away
You gotta get your undead fingers
Onto everything in sight
Better change your tune, boy (Ooh)
Because you won't believe the consequence
You better change your tune over
You keep in the right direction
'Fore you're forced to change your mind

But you keep coming on
You keep coming on
Forget about it
But you keep coming on
You keep on coming on
We'll shut you down this time

You can't hide away
And move onto the next woman
Forget about it
You just got to--
You can't hide away
You gotta get your undead hand
Onto everything in sight
It's too late to change your tune, man (Ooh)
The consequence will reach you past the grave

But you keep coming on
You keep coming on
Forget about it
But you keep coming on
You keep on coming on
It's been going on too long

Why don't you walk on in the right direction?
The consequence is waiting for you, it's gonna cut you out
Why don't you walk on in the right direction?
The consequence is waiting for you, it's gonna cut you
Turn, you're turning
Turn, you're turning around

Why don't you walk on in the right direction?
The consequence is waiting for you, it's gonna cut you out
Why don't you walk on in the right direction?
The consequence is waiting for you, it's gonna cut you
Turn, you're turning
Turn, you're turning around
