About This Track

Architects built 'Seeing Red' around a lyric that arrived first: the observation that affection arrives only when anger does, when the band's public persona burns brightest. Dan Searle, Sam Carter and Jordan Fish wrote the track as a direct response to the noise of attention, the way scrutiny masquerades as care. The song turns inward, questioning what remains when you strip away the performance, the rage, the machinery of being watched. The arrangement mirrors that tension. Searle's vocals move between measured reflection and controlled fury, never quite surrendering to either. He positions himself as a broken thing, uncertain whether the people around him want truth or spectacle, whether their investment in his suffering is genuine or parasitic. The chorus circles back to that core wound: the conditional nature of love, the way some audiences only show up when you're at your worst. 'Seeing Red' works as both a personal reckoning and a broader critique of how attention functions online. Searle names the contradiction plainly: people claim to need you whilst offering only judgment, demanding you perform crisis whilst pretending concern. The song refuses easy catharsis, instead holding the discomfort of being simultaneously essential and disposable, loved and exploited.

"Seeing Red" is a single by Architects, from the album The Sky, the Earth & All Between, released 28th February 2025. The track is 3:41 long. It's filed under Hard Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 11 articles about Architects.

Lyrics

Seeing Red

Rent-free living in your head
"RIP", they commented
I felt it when they said
"We only ever love you when you're seeing red", blegh
Seeing red

You oughta know that I'm like a broken machine
I'm not as bulletproof as you all paint me to be
Time hasn't frozen, why do you want me to scream?
Are you a junkie punk medicating for free?

We're all you need
We'll make you royalty
We'll be the best of enemies

Read me all my rights
I'll never grow tired of your great advice
Won't somebody tell me what I believe?
I'm sorry for your sacrifice
I guess I must've sounded like the antichrist
Won't somebody tell me
Won't somebody tell me
What I believe?

No debts, all love, I don't give a fuck
My head, my heart wouldn't be enough
I won't think twice
I'm afraid I'm the priest, you're the poltergeist
We're like one big family
Gee, thanks so much for the death threat
Do you hear the audacity?
You dummies only live on the internet

We're all you need (oh yeah? That's right!)
We'll make you royalty (gimme that gold)
We'll be the best of enemies

Read me all my rights
I'll never grow tired of your great advice
Won't somebody tell me what I believe?
I'm sorry for your sacrifice
I guess I must've sounded like the anti-christ
Won't somebody tell me
Won't somebody tell me
What I believe?

Oh
"Are you happy now?"

Rent-free living in your head
"RIP", they commented
I felt it when they said
"We only ever love you when you're seeing red"

Heaven burning bright
You've really gotta wonder how I sleep at night
Won't somebody tell me?
Won't somebody tell me?

Read me all my rights
I'll never grow tired of your great advice
Won't somebody tell me what I believe?
I'm sorry for your sacrifice
I guess I must've sounded like the anti-christ
Won't somebody tell me
Won't somebody tell me
What I believe?

What I believe
What I believe
(All eyes on me)
What I believe
