About This Track
Released as a single in November 2010 and later appearing on AWOLNATION's debut album 'Megalithic Symphony' the following year, 'Sail' is a cry for help dressed in a one-word command. Written and produced by the band's Aaron Bruno in Venice, Los Angeles, the track frames attention deficit disorder not as clinical footnote but as the engine of both creative impulse and self-destructive spiral. The lyrics adopt the voice of someone in crisis, the repeated invocation to 'sail' functioning less as escape fantasy than as mantra against collapse. Bruno credits, or blames, his ADD for the way love gets shown, for the way pride curdles, for the contemplation of ending things. The song refuses to soften the edges: it acknowledges suicidal ideation directly, the plea for help sitting alongside the impulse to silence it, all of it laid at the feet of a mind that won't sit still. The repetition of the title becomes both anchor and incantation, the invitation to 'sail with me into the dark' less romantic than it is a request for company in the depths. What began as a personal reckoning became, over time, a commercial juggernaut, the track's slow build to ubiquity mirroring the patience required of anyone trying to stay afloat when the current pulls hard.
"Sail" is a single by AWOLNATION, released 15th March 2011. The track is 4:19 long. Full lyrics are available below.
