Beach House have announced their eighth album, 'Once Twice Melody'
Following up on 208's '7', the first four songs from the record will be released as an EP titled 'Chapter One' tomorrow (11th November).
About This Track
Beach House's 'Zebra' moves with the slow certainty of its title animal, a dream pop track built on Victoria Legrand's hushed vocals and Alex Scally's guitar work. The song circles around a central tension: the speaker claims intimate knowledge of someone ("Don't I know you better than the rest?") whilst simultaneously accusing them of deception. That contradiction sits at the heart of the track, unresolved and quietly devastating. The production unfolds across four and a half minutes with patient restraint. Legrand's voice floats above shimmering instrumentation, delivering images of oasis children and wild horses with the detached clarity of someone describing a dream they're already forgetting. The repetition of "all deception" hardens the emotional core, each iteration a small refusal to accept the affection being offered. It's a song about doubt dressed up in the language of certainty, and it works because Beach House never oversell the hurt.
"Zebra" is a track by Beach House, from the album Teen Dream, released 16th January 2010. The track is 4:49 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 2 articles about Beach House.
