Ben Howard has released a new single, 'Life In The Time'
He's got a new album coming later this month.
About This Track
'Conrad' finds Ben Howard wrestling with the limits of human agency against forces beyond control. The song invokes Joseph Conrad's maritime narratives, casting a failed relationship as a ship that breached in circumstances neither party could alter. Howard sings of loving "with the good and the careless" in him, but accepts that some currents cannot be changed, that "it all goes back" to forces larger than intention or feeling. The track moves between intimate confession and philosophical remove, its repetition building a kind of resigned acceptance. The lyrics circle around the image of being alone in a cold world, climbing out to see the shape of things, understanding finally that love cannot master the weather and the sea. It is a song about the gap between desire and outcome, between what we bring to a relationship and what the world permits it to become.
"Conrad" is a single by Ben Howard, from the album I Forget Where We Were, released 19th October 2014. The track is 6:08 long. It's filed under Singer/Songwriter. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Ben Howard.
