'Winter' by BENEE is a 2020 alternative track from the album 'Hey u x'. The lyrics move through a claustrophobic state of unease, with zombies keeping someone from rest, a sense of being stared at, and a yearning for quiet and bedtime comfort. A creeping dislocation then breaks through, as the narrator admits, “Something here doesn't feel right”, before the unease turns bodily, with lines about skin burning. The overall effect is gothic and anxious, like a desire for sleep that cannot quite make it to morning.
