'Halo' appears on Beyoncé's third studio album, the double-disc 'I Am... Sasha Fierce', released in 2008. The track sits on the 'I Am...' side of the record, intended to offer a glimpse of the singer stripped of celebrity trappings. Written by Ryan Tedder and Evan Bogart, the song was composed with Beyoncé in mind, drawing inspiration from Ray LaMontagne's 'Shelter'. It was released as a single in January 2009.
The lyric maps the collapse of emotional defences in the face of transformative love. Beyoncé sings of walls tumbling without resistance, of standing in the light of a partner's halo, of gravity losing its pull. The imagery leans celestial: angels, rays of sun, saving grace.
