Beyoncé is celebrating 'B'Day' with her first new song in two years, ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’
New track launches 60-day countdown to 'B'Day' 20th anniversary edition.
About This Track
Beyoncé recruits Dolly Parton for 'TYRANT', a track from 'Cowboy Carter' released in March 2024. Parton's voice opens the song and threads through the backing vocals, whilst the production pivots midway from its opening gallows imagery into a trap-inflected groove built around violin. The lyrics adopt the voice of someone addressing a hangman, the figure both envied and interrogated for his capacity to act without remorse. That frame gives way to a second movement centred on desire and pursuit, Beyoncé casting herself as the tyrant of the title, the metaphor of riding deployed with deliberate double meaning. The tone shifts from the gothic to the carnal, the hydraulics and hypnotic hips of the chorus sitting against the earlier questions about turning a heart to stone. The collaboration marks a rare vocal appearance from Parton on another artist's album, her presence lending the track a lineage that bridges country tradition and Beyoncé's genre-crossing ambition across 'Cowboy Carter'.
"TYRANT" is a track by Beyoncé, from the album COWBOY CARTER, released 29th March 2024. The track is 4:11 long. It's filed under Country. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 17 articles about Beyoncé.
