About This Track

'NYLA (2019)' by blackbear is an R&B/Soul track from the album 'ANONYMOUS' (2019). The lyrics set up a long-distance situation with one person in New York and the other in LA, passing through routine like commuting, while the speaker frames their love as something that feels urgent and painful. The refrain returns to guilt and hurt, with the singer insisting, “I know that you're hurt”. The emotional register is aching and self-reproachful, driven by the contrast between separate cities and the time difference between waking and sleeping.

"NYLA (2019)" is a track by blackbear, from the album ANONYMOUS, released 26th April 2019. It's filed under R&B/Soul. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 2 articles about blackbear.

Lyrics

NYLA (2019)

[Intro]

Yeah

[Verse 1]

You're in New York, I'm in LA

I drive to work, you take the train

My heart – it burns, yes it burns, yes it burns

We're oceans away

And I'll be asleep by the time you're awake

By the time you're awake

[Chorus]

I know that you're hurt, I know I'm to blame

But I'll make it work, I'll make you stay

Until that day I'm one plane ride away

From New York to LA (From New York to LA)

I'll be one plane ride away

From New York to LA, 'til you stay

'Til you stay, oh

[Verse 2]

You're in LA, I'm in New York

I missed you today

So bad that it hurt

My heart – it burns, yes it burns

2800 miles away

I'll be at work by the time you're awake

So I'm callin' to say

[Chorus]

I know that you're hurt, I know I'm to blame (I'm to blame)

But I'll make it work, I'll make you stay

Until that day I'm one plane ride away

From New York to LA

I'll be one plane ride away

From New York to LA, 'til you stay

'Til you stay, 'til you stay, oh

[Bridge]

You're in New York

You feel the same

Do you feel the same?

Do you feel the same?

[Outro]

I know that you're hurt, I know I'm to blame

But I'll make it work, I'll make you stay

Until that day I'm one plane ride away

From New York to LA, I'll be one plane ride away

From New York to LA, 'til you stay
