About This Track
Bladee moves through 'egobaby' with the ease of someone who has learned to sit comfortably in contradiction. The track opens with a Swedish-language invocation of levels and fantasy worlds, then settles into a meditation on presence and absence, ego and surrender. There's a lightness to it, almost conversational; he speaks of dancing with stars and pulling joker cards, of sacrifice and thrones, but the tone never tips into boastfulness. Instead there's a kind of weariness underneath, the voice of someone who has tried to explain something beautiful to people who couldn't quite see it. The song builds its emotional weight through repetition and layering. Bladee returns again and again to the idea of togetherness, of sticking through difficulty, of endlessness. The bridge collapses time itself, day and night bleeding into one another, the refrain "over and over" becoming almost meditative. By the outro he has circled back to ego itself, the title's subject now framed as something to be acknowledged and moved past. It's a small song in some ways, but it contains multitudes.
