About This Track
Released in August 2018 as the sixth single from Burna Boy's third studio album 'Outside', 'Ye' became one of the Nigerian artist's breakthrough tracks beyond the African continent. Produced by Phantom, the song blends Afrobeat rhythms with a hypnotic, chant-like hook that anchors its title refrain. It reached number 26 on Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart and number 31 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, marking a commercial high point for the album. The lyrics toggle between English and Nigerian Pidgin, Burna Boy weighing material aspiration against the precarity that shadows it. He frames success as a choice between luxury cars whilst acknowledging the struggle that precedes any reward, the repeated line 'I no fit die for nothing' a refusal of waste or futility. The opening lament for those who 'die for nothing' casts a shadow the rest of the track tries to outrun, ambition and survival knotted together in the same breath.
"Ye" is a track by Burna Boy, from the album Outside, released 26th January 2018. The track is 3:52 long. It's filed under Afro-Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 8 articles about Burna Boy.
