About This Track

The New York duo Cafuné, Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo, who met at NYU some eight or nine years ago, released 'Tek It' on their debut album 'Running' in 2021. The track became a breakout for the pair, eventually accumulating hundreds of millions of streams and finding its audience well beyond the indie-pop sphere they'd occupied with their earlier EP 'Love Songs for Other People'.

The song charts the slow collapse of a relationship where reciprocity never quite arrived. Schat sings of tolerance running out and plans unmade, the lyric pivoting on the refrain 'I watch the moon / Let it run my mood / Can't stop thinking of you' before the decisive turn: 'So long, nice to know you, I'll be moving on.' The arrangement stays light and dreamy even as the sentiment hardens, the production carrying a kind of wistful momentum that matches the act of leaving someone you've already left emotionally.

By the bridge, the truth is acknowledged but unspoken, and by the outro the verdict is plain: 'I'm not into you.' It's a song about the gap between knowing and saying, and the relief that comes when you finally close it.

"Tek It" is a track by Cafuné, from the album Running, released 4th November 2019. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Tek It

[Verse 1]

Where did you learn what it means to reciprocate?

And how much can I be expected to tolerate?

So I started to think about the plans I made

The debt unpaid

And you just can't call a spade, a spade

[Chorus]

I watch the moon

Let it run my mood

Can’t stop thinking of you

I watch you (Now I let it go)

(And I watch as things play out like)

So long, nice to know you, I'll be moving on

[Verse 2]

We started off in such a nice place

We were talking the same language

I o-open and I'm closing

You can’t stand the thought

Of a real beating heart

You'd be holding, having trouble

O-o-owning and admit that

I am hoping

[Chorus]

I watch the moon

Let it run my mood

Can't stop thinking of you

I watch you (Now I let it go)

(And I watch as things play out like)

So long, nice to know you, I'll be moving on

Moving on

[Bridge]

You

Yeah, I always know the truth

But I can't just say it to you

Yeah, I know the truth

I knew

Yeah, I always know the truth

But I can't just say it to you

Yeah, I know the truth

[Outro]

I never thought we'd see it through

I never could rely on you

And few times your face came into view

Into view

I'm not into you

Into you
