About This Track

'First Time' by Cavetown is an alternative track from the album 'Running With Scissors' (2026). The lyrics chart a nervy, self-implicating run-in with authority on a highway, with a tense roadside pause and a warning delivered like a ticking clock: “Next time move away or go slow”. The speaker apologises, tries to rationalise the mistake, and moves between bruised ego and plain exhaustion. The overall mood is anxious and bruised, with an urgent pull towards home and the end of the incident, as the refrain trails off.

"First Time" is a track by Cavetown, from the album Running With Scissors, released 16th January 2026. The track is 1:22 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Cavetown.

Lyrics

First Time

There's A first time for everything
And "Everything" is getting pulled over
On A highway in albany
In A rental car on A wednesday
I apologized and he let me go
Told me "Next time move away or go slow"
Kinda crossed A line for my ego
Nearly lost my spine, I just wanna go home
I just wanna go home
Beat myself up nice and slow
Punch the line in the throat
I don't get the fucking joke
(It's not over 'til they meet the quota)
I don't get the fucking joke
(It's not over 'til they meet the quota)
I don't get the fucking joke

I just wanna go home
Beat myself up nice and slow
Punch the line in the throat
I don't get the fucking joke
