About This Track
Central Cee tells two parallel stories on 'Ruby', mapping the collateral damage of deprivation across West London. Ruby herself is fifteen, already aged beyond her years by instability at home; her parents' addiction meant care at five, multiple relocations, and a childhood spent learning not to trust. Jack's trajectory is darker still: young, holding knives, caught in cycles of retaliation where a single wrong choice hardens into a life sentence. Both move through a world where the odds are stacked before they're old enough to understand the game. The track's refrain, "you're as cold as ice", works as both diagnosis and warning. These are not moral failures but survival responses to environments that offer little warmth. Central Cee doesn't judge how people cope with what they've inherited; he documents instead the way broken homes produce broken decisions, how youth and desperation become a lethal combination. The song moves between their stories with a clarity that feels almost documentary, naming the specific mechanisms of their decline without sentiment or sermon.
"Ruby" is a track by Central Cee, from the album Wild West, released 12th March 2021. The track is 3:26 long. It's filed under Hip-Hop/Rap. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 13 articles about Central Cee.
