Chief Keef builds 'Self' around a single, relentless idea: autonomy as strength. The track pivots on the refrain "by myself", a phrase that doubles as both boast and warning. He moves through money, violence, and desire with the same cold self-sufficiency, each verse another assertion that he needs no one. The production sits spare and heavy, letting his voice and the repetition do the work. The song works because Keef doesn't sentimentalise solitude. He doesn't frame it as loneliness or virtue. It's simply the condition he prefers, or at least the one he's chosen to inhabit. Tadoe's verse arrives as a sharp counterpoint, all aggression and dismissal, before the chorus pulls back to that hypnotic refrain. What emerges is less a celebration of isolation than a portrait of someone who has made it his default setting, and who has learned to move through the world that way.
