About This Track

Chris Brown frames emotional turbulence as a colour, the song built around the image of rage made visible. He cycles through the same argument with a partner, each repetition tightening the knot; the pre-chorus finds him threatening to unravel entirely if she withdraws further. The guitar work, courtesy of Xeryus L. Gittens, cuts through with clean, angular lines that match the song's taut structure. The track sits on the album as a study in restraint. Where the record elsewhere explores spiritual intuition and transformation, 'Red' stays grounded in the immediate hurt of a relationship in freefall. Brown's vocal delivery is measured, almost conversational, which makes the emotional stakes feel harder rather than softer. The colour itself becomes a warning sign: eyes turning blood red, a part of him he doesn't want brought out. It's a song about losing control that never quite lets itself go.

"Red" is a track by Chris Brown, from the album Indigo, released 28th June 2019. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Red

[Intro: Neil Armstrong]

That's one small step for man

One giant leap for mankind

Columbia, Columbia, this is Houston AOS, over

(Columbia)

[Verse 1: Chris Brown]

Can I? Wait, can I? Should I?

Rewind, just remind me that I'm down

Knocked down

And it's your year

I should have realized, realized, from the beginnin'

You right, you right with that, baby (Huh)

Guess I know you better

Girl, nobody else matters

[Pre-Chorus: Chris Brown]

If you stay away from me too long, I

I might swim for it

If you keep your love from me, girl, I might

I'ma just keep goin'

'Round and 'round in circles

Could you stop fuckin' with my head?

'Cause I see the color purple

Don't break my heart

[Chorus: Chris Brown]

Don't wanna see

Red, red (Don't wanna see)

Red

Don't wanna see, see

Red

Eyes turnin' blood red

I don't want this, bringin' out a part of me

(Don't wanna see, see)

[Verse 2: Chris Brown]

Don't wanna go back and forth, back and forth

And you know it's a waste of time, baby

To get through to you, oh-woah

You keep arguin' always 'bout the same thing

But you don't mean it, no-no

And I can't believe that you be so cold

You can't even keep a low pro'

[Pre-Chorus: Chris Brown]

If you stay away from me too long, I (Stay away from me)

I might swim for it

If you keep your love from me, girl, I might

I'ma just keep goin' (Ooh)

'Round and 'round in circles

Could you stop fuckin' with my head? (Head)

'Cause I see the color purple (Ooh)

Don't break my heart (Ooh)

[Chorus: Chris Brown]

Don't wanna see

Red, red (Baby, I don't wanna see)

(Don't wanna see)

Red (Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Don't wanna see, see

Red (Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Eyes turnin' blood red

I don't want this, bringin' out a part of me

(Don't wanna see, see)

[Guitar Solo: Xeryus L. Gittens]

[Chorus: Chris Brown]

Don't wanna see

Red, red

(Don't wanna see)

Red (Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Don't wanna see, see

Red (Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Eyes turnin' blood red

I don't want this bringin' out a part of me (Yeah)

(Don't wanna see, see)

[Outro: Chris Brown]

Bringin' out a part of me

Ooh
