About This Track

'Hyper Trophy' by Citizen is a 2023 rock track from the album 'Calling the Dogs'. The lyrics move through images of frenzy in the rain and mania days, with a tightening, obsessive set of images, including something “under my ribcage”. There is a sense of brinkmanship in the repeated insistence that the moment, if it is just right, will make something clear. The overall tone feels restless and self-protective, as the voice tries to fold away its head while holding on to a new keepsake.

"Hyper Trophy" is a track by Citizen, from the album Calling the Dogs, released 5th October 2023. The track is 2:56 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 4 articles about Citizen.

Lyrics

Hyper Trophy

Frenzy in the rain, mania days
Fold up my head, got a new keepsake
Over my neck, under my ribcage
Over my neck, under my ribcage

If the moment was just right, then you'd know if I could
And if the moment was just right, then you'd know if I could

You're bright and bold (you're bright and bold)
I can't go on (I can't go on)
Though you followed me into the mud, it's not enough (it's not enough)
Enough

Enough
Enough

The shrapnel in your face
Into your gut, keeps you fed for days
Over my neck, under my ribcage
Over my neck, under my ribcage
Said you want more, just to turn face
Maybe that's you, never going to be me
Over my neck, under my ribcage
It is not enough (it is not enough)

You're bright and bold (you're bright and bold)
I can't go on (I can't go on)
Though you followed me into the mud, it's not enough (it's not enough)
You're bright and bold (you're bright and bold)
I can't go on (I can't go on)
I used to be so passionate
It's not enough (it's not enough)

If the moment was just right, then you'd know if I could
And if the moment was just right, then you'd know if I could

You're bright and bold (you're bright and bold)
I can't go on (I can't go on)
Though you followed me into the mud, it's not enough (it's not enough)
You're bright and bold (you're bright and bold)
I can't go on (I can't go on)
I used to be so passionate
It's not enough (it's not enough)
Enough
