About This Track

'Cache-Cache' finds Columbine moving through a world of transient connections and moral compromise. The track sketches a narrator drifting between lovers, indifferent to consequence, performing concern for the dispossessed whilst nursing his own resentments. There is no stability here, only hotels and the spaces between them, only the anger that rises when ideals collide with reality. The song's refrain cuts to the bone: he doesn't love Columbine, but Columbine is famous. It is a confession wrapped in a boast, the admission that celebrity matters more than authenticity, that the person and the brand have become irreconcilable. Columbine sings with a kind of weary clarity about the gap between who we pretend to be and who we are, the small cruelties we commit in the name of self-preservation.
