About This Track

'Ghost Writer' by Cursive is an Alternative track from the album 'Vitriola' (2018). The lyrics find a self-aware narrator roleplaying as someone else’s functionary, “writing” for a private record while amplifying a life story through hyperbole. It has the air of coerced authorship, with the speaker insisting they were never asked, yet carrying on anyway. The language then turns to politicising, mixing mock theatre with frustration, as if the grand finale of this imposed script can only be achieved by going louder.

"Ghost Writer" is a track by Cursive, from the album Vitriola, released 4th October 2018. The track is 3:07 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Cursive.

Lyrics

Ghost Writer

I'm at your secretary
Writing quips in your diary
Inflating your life story
Poor taste and rich hyperbole

Nobody asked me to do this
Yet, here I am
These exorcisms are useless
But then again...
If it's the last note I'm writing
I'll make it a grand finale

Rampant politicizing
This constant finger wagging
It's not a drama anymore
How'd your life become one big horror

Nobody asked my opinion
Yet, here it is
We're in an unholy union
With arrogance
This is the last note I'm writing
This world has never felt less inviting to me
There you go again

It's just a simple entry
Some light prose, sad and sweet
You had to go and fuck with the wording
You gotta shit on everything
Ghostwrite your wrongs

Nobody asked for an encore
Yet, here I am
This epilogue is an eyesore
It makes no sense
This is the last note I'm singing
Can you imagine such hubris got me this far?

Cursive: "When I'm wagging the finger at others, I'm also wagging the finger at myself"

Indie-rock stalwarts Cursive are back with their first album in six years. With society falling apart around us, it's a suitably vitriolic reaction to the state of the world.

    Cursive - Vitriola

‘Vitriola’ bubbles and boils with anger and simmers with regret and futility.
