About This Track

'2016' by d4vd is a 2024 track from the album 'Withering' that looks back on a younger self and the mental habits that follow growing up. The lyrics move from a desire to reclaim innocence, to a grim, self-blaming exchange with circumstance, before landing on the line, "I'm not the same kid I was in 2016". In the chorus, the narrator admits to being young and careless, then pivots to how they now overthink things they cannot quite sort.

"2016" is a track by d4vd, from the album Withering, released 9th February 2024. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 19 articles about d4vd.

Lyrics

2016

[Verse 1]

I want to buy my innocence

Back from the gun that's at my head

I’m not mad at you girl, I just had a bad day

What could possibly go wrong? I'm as good as gone

[Chorus]

I'm not the same kid I was in 2016

I was young, I was dumb

Now I overthink things

That I shouldn't, I couldn't

You wouldn't believe what I did as a kid back in 2016

[Verse 2]

I hate birthdays, they mean nothing to me

I don't celebrate, so don't buy anything

For me, I don’t deserve it, I'm bleeding out on purpose

I see it makes you nervous, is it working?

[Chorus]

I'm not the same kid I was in 2016

I was young, I was dumb

Now I overthink things

That I shouldn't, I couldn't

You wouldn't believe what I did as a kid back in 2016

[Bridge]

I didn't care what you said when I was a kid

But you tried to ruin my life a thousand times

But now look at you

[Chorus]

I'm not the same kid I was in 2016

I was young, I was dumb

Now I overthink things

That I shouldn't, I couldn't

You wouldn't believe what I did as a kid back in 2016
