'Loose' arrives midway through 'Freudian', Daniel Caesar rationalising the end of a relationship in what reads as a stream of consciousness. The verses frame the decision as advice to himself: if the rain and thunder follow her around, if patience runs thin when she starts to whine, then cut her loose. The instruction repeats, half-mantra and half-admission, before the bridge shifts register, 'What are you, a coward?', and the song pivots from rationalisation to self-reproach. The outro disrupts the internal monologue with a fragment of real conversation, the girl's voice cutting in over Caesar's: 'You don't love me anymore.' The exchange that follows, apologies, logistics, a phone handed over, lands like eavesdropping, the studio artifice suddenly permeable. It sets up the transition into 'We Find Love', the next track on the album, a shift noted for its clarity when the record first appeared in 2017.
