About This Track

'Shellstar' by Deafheaven is a 2021 rock track from the album 'Infinite Granite'. The lyrics paint a barren, desert-like landscape, thick with images of ash, fire and noise, as a sense of change stalls out in “Nothing changes the condition”. Through question after question, the narrator sounds unsettled by a kind of freedom that feels distant and unresponsive, framing the roaming as both sublime and scorched. The language moves like a slow pan across horizons and bruised colour, from violet peeling to fleeing horizons and swaying lilacs, before the scene collapses into char, cough, and roar.

"Shellstar" is a track by Deafheaven, from the album Infinite Granite, released 19th August 2021. The track is 6:06 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 9 articles about Deafheaven.

Lyrics

Shellstar

Nothing changes the condition
Dormant sooted desertion

When a violet peeling shows teeth glowing
Horizons fleeing, lilacs swaying
A sublime wander through summer fire
The char, the ash, the cough, the roar

I question the reason for the freedom in unfeeling
I question the reason in this furnace of revealing

Salvage the illusion
Of once mint gardens

Before a violet peeling showed teeth glowing
Horizons fleeing, lilacs swaying
When it takes you, you'll be remembered
Young and kind for all time

I question the reason for the freedom in unfeeling
I question the reason in this furnace of revealing

All my reasons gone

Flooded with raining
Levees are breaking
Flooded with raining, levees are breaking
Houses are bursting, sisters are sleeping
Flooded with raining, levees are breaking
Houses are bursting, sisters are sleeping
Flooded with raining, levees are breaking
Houses are bursting, sisters are sleeping
Flooded with raining, levees are breaking
Houses are bursting, sisters are sleeping
Flooded with raining, levees are breaking
Houses are bursting, sisters are sleeping

Yearning for touch but it's all too much
