FIDLAR: "I hope people see we're not just slacker punk stoner idiots"

'Sober' finds FIDLAR in the middle of a relationship breakdown, the narrator caught between self-improvement and resentment. The song pivots on a simple observation: life feels worse when you're sober enough to see it clearly. There's no romance in sobriety here, only the hard clarity of recognising that you've been bending yourself around someone else's needs whilst your own go unmet. The track builds its argument through repetition and escalation. What starts as a plea for reciprocal treatment hardens into a severance. The narrator demands autonomy, refuses to be told what to do, and eventually walks away from the whole tangle of people and expectations. It's a song about the cost of trying to be better whilst everyone around you stays the same, and the moment you stop paying it.
