About This Track

Fireboy DML stakes his claim with a swagger that sits easy in the pocket. 'King' moves on layered vocals and catchy melodies, the kind of production that lets a voice breathe without strain. The song is built around a simple, effective demand: treat me like royalty, not as a supplicant. He will fight for love, he insists, but he will not beg for it. The track marries English and Yoruba across its verses and chorus, moving between declarations of self-worth and appeals to a lover's better judgment. There is a lightness to it all, a refusal to let the negotiation become heavy. The production, focused and uncluttered, lets that tone carry through. It is the sound of someone who knows his value and is content to let that knowledge do the talking.

"King" is a track by Fireboy DML, from the album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, released 17th September 2019. Full lyrics are available below.
