About This Track

'Defender' by Flyte is an alternative track from the album 'Flyte', released in 2023. The lyrics cast a relationship in terms of pursuit and restraint, with a speaker keeping close watch while insisting, “I’m strong enough”. There is a sense of spiralling distance and repeated bad timing, but also a practical, almost superstitious attempt to stay useful, from calling others for support to presenting a steadying role. The song frames devotion as protection, turning the idea of being a defender into a way of coping with feeling left behind.

"Defender" is a track by Flyte, from the album Flyte, released 26th October 2023. The track is 3:56 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 5 articles about Flyte.

Lyrics

Defender

I know that you're behind the door
Spiralling away from me
It's been worse than this before
I've got a good memory

I call your friends
They send me luck
And I pretend
I'm strong enough
To be your defender

I know that you're behind the wheel
And I am just a passenger
Round the town, circling
Wish you were home right now

Your daily dose
Is changing gears
If I could drive
I'd take us home from here
I'd be your defender

Underlining every word
The spring release the shutter blurred
Katie meets you on the heath
Gold retriever brain relief
You were shining in your sheath
I drew you out and broke the peace
Across an ocean dolphin torn
To changing rooms and teacup storms
That help me remember
To be your defender
