'What If' strips G-Eazy's ambition down to its structural skeleton. Every line begins with the same conditional, a rhetorical device that lets him cycle through fantasy and complaint with equal weight: imagined wealth, imagined power, imagined freedom from consequence, imagined worlds where his mother is healthy and rappers stay in their lanes. The repetition works as both constraint and release, a formal permission to say anything because nothing is quite being asserted. The song moves between personal and political without much distinction. A question about selling his soul sits alongside one about free college tuition; a boast about stopping nobody sits next to a wish that snitches stayed silent and people offered guidance instead of salt. It's the sound of someone thinking out loud at three in the morning, the kind of rambling that only works if you commit to it entirely. Gizzle's hook catches the hook's own uncertainty: "What if I couldn't lose / What if you couldn't win." The production, credited to Southside, stays minimal and lets the voice do the work.
