About This Track

Jack White's first solo single strips back to something primal: a two-minute blast of garage-rock fury built on a simple, insistent riff and White's voice pushing hard against the edges of restraint. The song arrives as a statement of refusal, its narrator determined to resist love's capacity to wound, to corrupt, to turn allies into enemies. White frames love not as romance but as violence, a force that grabs and twists and bites, and the track's compressed energy mirrors that aggression. The lyrics work through a catalogue of emotional damage with dark humour, each verse a fresh scenario of love's potential cruelty. Musically, White keeps things sparse: the guitar cuts clean and sharp, the rhythm section locks tight, and there's no room for sentiment or softness.
