About This Track

A duet with his sister Willow, 'PCH' takes its name from the Pacific Coast Highway, the California route that stretches down the near-perfect coastline. Jaden adopts a drowsy, detached tone in the verses, narrating a late-night drive with a sleeping passenger who spent the previous hours drinking, whilst Willow's refrain opens the frame to include the wider carload of restless youth. The repetition is hypnotic, the mood closer to drift than celebration. Willow's pre-chorus and bridge shift the temperature slightly, offering reassurance and a kind of open invitation to vulnerability under a full moon. The track appeared on Jaden's 2014 mixtape 'CTV2', a sequel to his atmospheric debut 'The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape, Vol. 1', which had drawn on Kid Cudi and Purity Ring as touchstones. The song suits its subject: music built for the long stretches of tarmac and ocean light that inspired it.
