Jay Z has announced his new album, '4:44'
Yep, we’re still doing this platform exclusivity thing, apparently.
About This Track
A Nas collaboration from Jay-Z's 2013 album 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail', 'BBC' catalogues luxury-brand signifiers across two decades of hip-hop ascent. Nas opens with a verse that moves from Bally shoes and unlaced Adidas in the late eighties to smoking in Ibiza and mixing D'USSE with cannabis, the trajectory framed as leisure earned. Jay-Z follows with his own inventory: Maybach headrest televisions, rope chains in the Rakim era, Suzuki Jeeps for his crew, a cherry-red M3, Versace plates bearing Basquiat collaborations. The hook insists on the distance travelled from coca leaves and farmers to polo fleece and billionaire status, the drug-dealer aesthetic now worn as costume rather than necessity.
The production, handled by Swizz Beatz, keeps the tempo brisk and the arrangement minimal, allowing the litany of brands and models to land without ornament. Both verses treat luxury as evidence, each item a receipt for survival and reinvestment. The track runs just over three minutes, its brevity matching the directness of the catalogue form.
