About This Track

'Drama' finds Jesse® caught between performance and collapse. The song pivots on a central tension: the pressure to be entertaining, to keep others happy, to play along, versus the weight of anxiety and mortality that keeps threatening to break through. The chorus sets the terms of this bargain, a catalogue of small surrenders that accumulate into something heavier. You can mock me, pull my strings, keep me compliant, but the price is always there. What emerges across the verses is a portrait of someone trying to manage their own unravelling through distraction and denial. Jesse® admits to the fakery, the creative workarounds, the chemical escape routes. Yet the song never quite lets the listener off the hook either. The bridge erupts into something darker and more confrontational, a moment where the accumulated pressure finds its voice in something close to nihilism. The production holds steady whilst the lyrical temperature rises, a restraint that makes the emotional turbulence feel more acute.

"Drama" is a track by Jesse®, from the album & (Ampersand), released 2nd November 2017. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Drama

[Intro]

Hey-ahh, hey, hey-ahh, hey

[Chorus]

And you can put me down but you gotta pick me up, mhm

Yeah, and you can poke fun but I might not like it much, no

Pull on my strings, whatever brings you joy, mhm

And we can play around but I'm gonna get serious

[Verse 1]

Sooner or later I'm gonna get anxious again

And I tried to fake it but I'm not the greatest at that, no

I'll get creative and come up with ways to be happy (Smiling)

And you could keep praying but nobody's safe from the end

Not you, not me, not anyone

[Bridge]

Hey! Shoot ya gun at the sun, hit and run now (Right now)

Yeah, you should ruin the fun for everyone, just kill us all now

Hey-ahh, hey, hey-ahh

[Verse 2]

And once in a while you might see me smile and laugh (Ha, ha, ha)

But I'm in denial or probably just high off my ass

I'll get creative and come up with ways to ignore it, mhm

And you could keep praying but nobody's safe from the end

[Outro]

Hey-ahh, hey, hey-ahh
