alibi

I was looking for the light
I don't wanna be the problem
I was in it for the night
You said you wanted something stronger

Than you had
And that was that
You took my hand and then we slipped out of the back
You didn't tell
I didn't ask
I guess that I assumed that it was in the past

Oh, Adeline
I'm not saying that it was a crime
I know I shouldn't feel so surprised
But I turned to stone
When you called him back and you told him
I'm out of your life
Guess you just used me for an alibi
Whatever makes you feel justified
I took the fall
And you fled the scene with my hands tied

Oh, Adeline
Why did you lie? (Lie to me)
Oh, Adeline
Why did you lie?

I wanna jump into a cab
Tell them, "Take me anywhere else"
Was this always in the plan you had?
A scapegoat to take the blame for

What you did
And what you said
You took my hand, and then you threw me off the ledge
You didn't cry
I didn't beg
I guess I'll fold while being dealt a dirty hand

Oh, Adeline
I'm not saying that it was a crime
I know I shouldn't feel so surprised
But I turned to stone
When you called him back and you told him
I'm out of your life
Guess you just used me for an alibi
Whatever makes you feel justified
I took the fall
And you fled the scene with my hands tied

And all you had to do was look back
Did our fire thaw your frozen heart
You threw me on the pile in your closet
With your skeletons, in the dark
And we were laying on my deathbed
Our story ended in the prologue
You took what you wanted and ran back
And I turned to stone

Oh, Adeline
I guess that I was just an alibi
I hope that helps you feel justified
I took the fall
And you fled the scene with my hands tied
