About This Track
Julie's 'flutter' traces the weight of a relationship collapsing under its own contradictions. The song opens with a promise of devotion that curdles into recrimination, the narrator caught between what she claimed she'd be and what she's become. The emotional register is one of exhaustion; she's heavy as lead, dragging something dead, asking for distance even as she's pinned in place. The lyrics move between physical sensation and emotional numbness, between the vividness of ruby lips and the deadness of someone she can no longer reach. There's a brittleness to the imagery, a sense of things breaking down into their component parts. The repetition of the chorus and the central verse creates a loop of frustration, the same weight returning each time, inescapable. What emerges is a portrait of two people locked in a dynamic neither can quite escape or articulate.
