About This Track

Labrinth's 'Formula' arrives as a fractured fever dream, built on the collision of Einstein's equation and the interior monologue of someone unravelling. The lyrics pivot between grandiose scientific reference and the mundane vocabulary of mental breakdown: screws loose, lights on but nobody home, a blimp rattling inside the skull. There is no chorus in the traditional sense, only the repeated mantra of living for the thrill, chased by the refrain that something has come undone. The track sits within Labrinth's score for the HBO series, where it functions as a kind of psychological portrait. The production mirrors the lyrical instability, moving between moments of clarity and a kind of controlled chaos. What emerges is less a song than a state of mind rendered in sound and language, the formula of the title both a mathematical absolute and a recipe for self-destruction.
