About This Track
The lead single from Logic's third studio album of the same name, 'Everybody' arrived via Visionary Music Group and Def Jam Recordings on 31st March 2017. Production came from Logic himself alongside 6ix and PSTMN. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA on 26th March 2018.
The track opens with a defiant return ('I was gone for a minute but I'm back now') before moving into autobiographical territory, Logic recalling a childhood spent running from police, then pivoting to questions of identity and belonging. The second verse confronts his mixed-race heritage head-on, invoking the historical violence of slavery and the contradictions of being 'not accepted by the black or the white'. The chorus, a simple litany of shared human needs, undercuts the specifics with a statement of commonality.
The song's directness about race, privilege, and erasure sits at the centre of the album's broader conceptual ambitions. Logic credits the light he can see; the wish to erase division recurs as a refrain.
