Oberon

‘Oberon’ is a 2021 track by LUMP, taken from the album ‘Animal’. The lyrics come out as resentful and self-analysing, with the speaker protesting against an old name while insisting they are open to change until it reaches the point of being erased. There’s a sense of betrayal in lines about being let down and old pain being brought up, followed by a more tentative resolve. The repeated use of the name, “Oberon”, reads like both address and verdict, as they weigh what they never stood up for and wonder if they can reclaim something in future.
