‘Fireproof’ by Mitski is a 2017 track from ‘Our First 100 Days’. The lyrics sound like a nervous vow to hold on as the speaker’s thoughts threaten to tip over, with repetition that mimics restless trying. Jet-stream heat supplies the image, turning inner pressure into something physical, urgent, and hard to ignore. There’s a sense of momentum, too, as the speaker keeps rolling on “’til I change my luck”, as if endurance might become its own kind of protection. The title’s promise of invulnerability reads less like confidence and more like a wager, made while the mind is actively coming undone.
"Fireproof" is a track by Mitski, from the album Our First 100 Days, released 1st May 2017. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Mitski.
