About This Track

A collaboration between MK, Jonas Blue and Becky Hill, 'Back & Forth' captures the exhausting cycle of an on-off relationship. The track maps the emotional whiplash of uncertainty: one moment offering tenderness, the next withdrawal; promises followed by silence. Becky Hill's vocal carries the frustration of someone caught in a pattern they cannot break, singing of a partner who is "only nice when you wanna be" and leaves her perpetually uncertain of where she stands. The song's structure mirrors its subject. The chorus returns again and again to the same refrain, "we go back and forth", turning repetition into a kind of trap. There's no resolution here, no breakthrough, just the weary acknowledgment that "it ain't good for me" and yet the cycle continues. It's a portrait of emotional exhaustion dressed in a pop production that keeps the energy high even as the lyrical content describes depletion.

Lyrics

Back & Forth

[Chorus]

It's the same old story in this tug of war

We go back and forth, we go back and forth

And it ain't good for me, what we do this for?

We go back and forth, won’t do this, no

[Post-Chorus]

Oh whoa

We go back and forth, we go back and forth

Oh whoa

We go back and forth, won’t do this, no

[Hook]

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

[Verse 1]

You're only nice when you wanna be

You always leave me wondering, wondering

It's not as simple as you and me

Can never tell if I'm in love with him or lost with him

[Pre-Chorus]

Tryna find an in-between, it's all, it's all or nothing

You pull me back when you feel me slip away

Deceive me with your loving

[Chorus]

It's the same old story in this tug of war

We go back and forth, we go back and forth

And it ain't good for me, what we do this for?

We go back and forth, won’t do this, no

[Post-Chorus]

Oh whoa

We go back and forth, we go back and forth

Oh whoa

We go back and forth, won’t do this, no

[Hook]

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

[Verse 2]

With you, there's no reasoning

I'm done with fighting all the time, all the time

I'm tryna speak, you're not listening

Closed ears with open eyes, broken minds

[Pre-Chorus]

Tryna find an in-between, it's all, it's all or nothing, oh

You pull me back when you feel me slip away

Deceive me with your loving

[Chorus]

It's the same old story in this tug of war, oh

We go back and forth, we go back and forth

And it ain't good for me, what we do this for?

We go back and forth, won’t do this, no

[Hook]

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all

All, all, always never tell if

All, all we, all
