About This Track

The final track on Wishful Thinking, 'Candour' explores the weight of inherited traits and the approach of mortality. Neck Deep's Ben Barlow draws from personal experience, the song inspired by his father, as he traces the physical and moral inheritance that shapes us. The lyrics move between observation and reckoning: watching a parent age, recognising their mannerisms in yourself, the quiet pride that passes between generations without words. The song builds from restraint to something fuller, Laura Whiteside's voice joining Barlow's as the arrangement swells.
