About This Track

nothing,nowhere. builds 'hammer' around the boast of a self-made ascent. The track moves from high-school isolation to merchandise sales and television appearances, each verse a small victory against the doubters who once ignored him. He plays guitar, references Vermont and Bernie Sanders, invokes Danny Phantom's double life. The chorus settles into a mantra of inevitability: he is the reaper in your dreams, and you cannot be him. The song tilts toward hip-hop more than the earlier material from the same record, trading some of the emo textures for a straighter rap delivery. A concern with sobriety runs through the lyrics, a thread that marks the work as something more than simple braggadocio.
