About This Track

Oliver Tree teams with Whethan on a track about betrayal and miscalculation. The song hinges on a narrator who befriends someone he mistakes for an ally, only to discover she operates with her own agenda. She's positioned as a step ahead, always, turning what promised to be golden into something diminished. The lyrics move between self-recrimination and accusation. There's a recognition that undervaluing yourself leaves you vulnerable, that not knowing who you are makes you prey to those who do know exactly what they want. The chorus settles into a kind of resigned realisation: this person was never what she seemed, and the friendship itself was a miscalculation that may yet prove fatal.
