About This Track

Post Malone builds 'Monta' around the exploits of a former Dallas Mavericks shooting guard, the song a loose basketball fantasy where he adopts the player's swagger and court vision. The hook is a mantra of confidence, repeated until it becomes almost hypnotic; he's not just rapping about the athlete, he's channelling him, the comparison a shorthand for dominance and style. Lil Yachty arrives for the second verse with his own run of sports references and boasts, the two voices trading the same bravado without friction. The track moves fast and light, more interested in the pleasure of the comparison than in any deeper meaning. It's a song about feeling good, about borrowed confidence, about the fantasy of being someone else for three minutes.
