Lyrics

Stone

You used to be the best to me
You were the only one
I watched you walk your life
When all I did was run
You put me on a throne
Then left me all alone
Watch me turn to stone

Sweet lover's song
Is what we used to sing
A song from the book of love
We laughed at everything
We gave from May to May
We gave through night and day
Now who can say why we're cold
With nothing left but a stone
Stone
Nothing left but a stone

A thirsty leaf says
Autumn's in the air
What's left of love is
Dangling somewhere
Shouldn't we cherish it
And treat it with respect?
Hanging 'round so long
There ain't nothing there

Sweet lover's song
Washed away the dirt
A song from the book of love
That healed our every hurt
We gave from May to May
We gave through night and day
Now who can say why we're cold
With nothing left but a stone
Stone
Ain't nothing left but stone

Should we go our separate ways
Or give this one more try?
What is there left to build on
When love's foundation dies?
Seemed like we could work this out
Last time I checked, we're grown
Take your hands and place it on this heart of stone
Stone

To be loved (to be loved)
To be loving (to be loving)
Isn't it what you make it?
Isn't it when two people give more than they're taking?
Isn't it when a woman deserves a savior
And a man comes running with the only hands that can save her?

Eyes of special flames (true)
Without being told (true)
She can feel the heat
Even in the cold
Better than growing old
With nothing left but a stone

Stone
Nothing left but a stone
Stone
Seems like we could work this out
