About This Track

'Down' by RAYE is a 2021 track from the album 'Dark Dance Songs'. The lyrics lean into a secret, intimate dynamic, with a recurring urge to be pushed down and taken to a bedside, alongside lines about keeping things hidden from family. A chorus phrase, “Pushing me down, down”, captures the insistence and the sense of mutual thrill, even as the secrecy is stressed.

"Down" is a track by RAYE, from the album Dark Dance Songs, released 2021. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about RAYE.

Lyrics

Down

[Chorus]

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

[Verse 1]

Oh, my momma won’t know you, daddy won’t know you

No one gon’ know, you’re my little secret

I don’t pick calls up, MIA, all of them

Just to get high and stare at the ceiling, mm

I ain’t sober, I blew it

Easily, I’m influenced

It ain’t hard, ease into it

Hard to ease into it

[Pre-Chorus]

C-c-c-call it peer pressure, put the chemicals in

Wrapped around your neck, call me your fucking diamond

You love it when I’m vulnerable, I love it when you’re mine

I stay another night then another night

[Chorus]

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Right now (You love it too)

Oh, how (You love it too)

[Verse 2]

I need a bare minimum, sweet like cinnamon

When you get to know me, see I’m not that innocent

I’m so diligent, how I’m feeling him

How I wake up and I take him like a vitamin

And it’s killing him, when I think of it

Don’t, I won’t let him meet my siblings

If they did, they would cry for me imminent

If I did, I would have to get rid of him, rid of him, mm

[Pre-Chorus]

C-c-c-call it peer pressure, put the chemicals in

Wrapped around your neck, call me your fucking diamond

You love it when I’m vulnerable, I love it when you’re mine

I stay another night, another night

[Chorus]

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Right now (You love it too)

Oh, how (You love it too)

[Pre-Chorus]

Call it peer pressure, put the chemicals in

Wrapped around your neck, call me your fucking diamond

You love it when I’m vulnerable, I love it when you’re mine

I stay another night and then another night

Ooh-ooh

[Chorus]

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down (You love it too)

Down, down

Pushing me down, down

I’ll take you to my bedside

I want your best side

I’ll let you push it down, down

Pushing me down, down (You love it too)

Right now (You love it too)

Oh, how (You love it too)
