About This Track

'Alcohol' by SAULT is a track on 'Nine', released in 2021. The lyrics describe alcohol as a repeat temptation that leads to regret, with the singer fixated on “alcohol” after crossing a line, insisting it was only meant to happen once. The repeated hook and the blunt self-accounting give the song a confessional, spiralling feel, as the verses build from the idea of control into the acknowledgement that the outcome has already been decided.

"Alcohol" is a track by SAULT, from the album Nine, released 25th June 2021. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 4 articles about SAULT.

Lyrics

Alcohol

[Verse 1: Cleo Sol]

Oh-oh, alcohol

Look what I've done

Oh-oh, alcohol

Look what I've done

Oh-oh, alcohol

This time, you won

Oh-oh, alcohol

Only supposed to be once

[Break]

(Oh, oh)

(Oh, oh)

(Oh, oh)

(Oh, oh)

[Verse 2: Cleo Sol]

Oh-oh, alcohol (Alcohol)

Look what I've done (Alcohol)

Oh-oh, alcohol (Alcohol)

Look what I've done (Alcohol)

Battle of the pain when I take

[Bridge: Cleo Sol]

One step forward, two steps back

One step forward, two steps back

One step forward, two steps back

One step forward, two steps back

[Verse 3: Cleo Sol]

Oh-oh, alcohol

Look what I've done

Oh-oh, alcohol

Look what I've done

Oh-oh, alcohol

This time, you won

Oh-oh, alcohol

Only supposed to be once (Alcohol)

Oh-oh, alcohol (Alcohol)

Look what I've done (Alcohol)

Oh-oh, alcohol (Alcohol)

Look what I've done (Alcohol)

[Bridge: Cleo Sol]

Look what I've done

Look what I, look what I've done, done

Look what I've done

Alcohol

Look what I've done

Look what I

Oh, alcohol

It was only supposed to be one

One, one, one, one, one

Look what I, look what I

Look what I've done, no, no, no, no, no, no

[Outro: Cleo Sol]

I don't even know why you had to

Why you had to (One step forward)

Why you had to

Why you couldn't (Two steps back)

One step forward, two steps back

One step forward, two steps back

One step forward, two steps back

(Oh, alcohol)
