'Perfect' opens with a direct address to a father, the narrator asking whether he has lived up to expectation. Simple Plan frame the song as a reckoning with parental disapproval, the verses tracing a relationship that has curdled from hero-worship to distance. The chorus repeats the apology, 'I'm sorry, I can't be perfect', over a structure built for arena singalongs.
The bridge shifts register briefly, the plea not to turn away cutting through the defiance elsewhere. Released in March 2002 on 'No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls', the track runs four minutes and thirty-seven seconds and has accumulated over three hundred and thirty-seven million streams on Spotify. The 15th Anniversary Tour Edition reissue keeps the original recording intact, the production unchanged from the Lava Records release.
"Perfect" is a single by Simple Plan, from the album No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls (15th Anniversary Tour Edition), released 19th March 2002. The track is 4:37 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 12 articles about Simple Plan.
