About This Track

‘Cranium’ by Slothrust is a 2021 rock track from the album ‘Parallel Timeline’. The lyrics are restless and self-accusing, with the speaker resisting unwanted compulsion, dreading the silence, and then turning the imagery grotesque and domestic all at once, as they plead, “I don’t wanna be addicted to the noise”. There is a manic, almost nursery-rhyme rhythm to the phrasing, even as the lines gesture towards despair and self-harmful impulses. The effect is volatile. It feels like a mind trying to wrestle back control, only to keep spiralling.
