About This Track
'Starlight' frames cosmic distance as the measure of longing. The narrator cannot find words to express his love, so he reaches instead for the language of space and light: stardust, galaxies, the endless skies. The song builds its emotional architecture around a central conceit, that devotion persists across the void, that "a thousand armies won't stop me, I'll break through". It is both grandiose and intimate, the scale of the universe pressed into service for the scale of a single attachment. The track moves between moments of separation and reunion, each chorus returning to the image of starlight as both barrier and beacon. Dustin Bates and Sahaj Ticotin wrote a song about the impossibility of articulating feeling, then gave it one of the most articulate metaphors in the album: that love is the only thing worth crossing light years for. The production swells to meet the sentiment, turning what could have been a straightforward ballad into something that feels genuinely vast.
