‘Selfish’ by SZA is a 2017 song in which the lyrics take aim at a partner’s callousness, centring on hurt feelings and resentment. The narrator frames themselves as replaceable, while accusing the other person of carrying on without regard for how they look or the damage they cause. There is also an explicit sexual, confrontation-ready edge, captured in the chorus sentiment of being used with careless certainty. The verses repeatedly return to the idea that selfishness has consequences, and the singer cannot help reacting to what they have seen and endured.
