About This Track

‘A Subtle Dagger’ by Thrice is an alternative track from the album ‘The Illusion of Safety’ (2002). The lyrics cast an infiltrator that masquerades as love, turning trust into betrayal and steering belief towards “design”. The narrator insists that the comfort-seeking instinct will not deliver true answers, and ends with a demand for yet another lie to keep things quiet. Its mood is paranoid and condemnatory, with the repeated sense of being manipulated from within.

"A Subtle Dagger" is a track by Thrice, from the album The Illusion of Safety, released 5th February 2002. The track is 1:48 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 2 articles about Thrice.

Lyrics

A Subtle Dagger

It infiltrates,
Insidious,
It feigns at love,
Betrays our trust
In what we've known,
Since we were born.
The truth we've found in all we see

Points to design,
Still our chests swell,
We'll never find
True answers from a wishing well.

So feed us all
Another lie,
To still our thoughts,
Appease our pride,
So we wont have
To change the way we see, we live, we love, we die,

Our lust precede
Our blasphemy,
Our logic reads
Like notes from tainted autopsy.

(Solo by Teppei)

Our souls they speak of something more,
But we cant look beyond ourselves.
We implore empty skies because
Our hearts hold room for no one else,

We extend our
Claws to grasp at shadows of the
Ideals we have,
Lost causalities of a subtle dagger,
Buried to the
Hilt in our hearts, blood on our hands.
