Lyrics

Backwards

[Verse 1]

Children are swimming

In the water, mmm-hmm

Playing and laughing, being golden

No way of knowin'

[Chorus]

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

[Verse 2]

Grass is getting browner

Trees are falling in the heat

Water's getting drier, people are hurting

Who are we fooling?

[Chorus]

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

[Post-Chorus]

Don't it make you cry?

Don't it make you want to lay down on the ground and die?

[Verse 3]

Hey, baby, sun is setting

On the good times, oh no

Funny, when I was younger

We loved the future, but the future knew

[Chorus]

We were moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving backwards

We're moving back

[Post-Chorus]

Don't it make you cry?

Don't it make you want to shout out at the midnight sky?

[Verse 4]

I'm heading to the cabin

In Canada, Sheridan Lake

I'm sitting by the docks

Skippin' rocks

[Outro]

O Canada

Our bald eagles are moving up there for good

O Canada

Our bald eagles are moving up there for good

O Canada

Our bald eagles are moving up there for good

O Canada

The rest of us suckers would be moving up there if we could
